Mine’s on the 45…

Magic Moutain

So I take this medicine that kills my immune system, so I’m supposed to stay away from people who are sick, according to the doctor.  She says this knowing full well that I work at the same hospital as her, with the public. I’m just supposed to be the boy in the bubble and sequester myself. What about at home? So that’s supposed to be done at home too, but you don’t count on taking a cough full in the face by someone with “allergies” at 2:30 in the morning. Four days later, I get a super-cold x 10 with continual congestion and sleepiness. But once again, you get to profit from my maladies.

I retired to the music room, and took time to go through some of the 45s I have. Every time I go through them, im always surprised by a song that I had been looking for and didn’t know that I had, and just stuff that I had never heard before that was my type of sound. I found more than a few to last for a few post, so I’m just going to trickle them out.

The main song today, Magic Mountain by War, I had heard on Pandora and was instantly recognized as the sample used by De La Soul for Potholes in My Lawn. The song itself is nice, not just the sampled part. Of coursed I couldn’t find the album it’s on. Found every other War album for a dollar but not the one with it on there. Of course it wasn’t on an album, but it was the B side to Spill That Wine. Which was impossible to find as well. Until I got sick. So the lesson here is take Imuran to help you find that record you’re looking for.

… Not Really Live, I Rather Do It At 45

45 PM of Pure Soul

I’ve raided the vault for this post today. There is a vast amount of 45s just waiting to be played. Only thing is, they were in storage forever. At least since 1988. Uncovered. Without their sleeves, so they are not in optimal shape. I’ve cleaned them up the best I could and cleaned the audio up some. So you get what you get, clicks, pops and skips.

Some of these are really old and it took some research to determine which side is “A”. That would be the “hit” side to you young folks who’ve never smelled a 45 in their life. My thing is, why are there never any dates on theses? Just give me the year it was released, that’s all I need. Anyway, these are some that I came across and gave a quick listen to. Some funky soul and Latin cuts. *The First one, Hole In The Wall, is actually a single released by the 1966 Green Bay Packers. It features Bart Starr, Paul Hornug, Jim Taylor, Ray Nitschke and others. I believe Vince Lombardi refused to take part. This song had nothing to do with Green Bay but it’s like the precursor to the Super Bowl Shuffle.

I’ve been told it’s not those Packers. Till I get confirmation, it’s Green Bay to me,
